Introducing: Niko Angell-Gargiulo

Hey everyone,

I wanted to quickly introduce the new Unruly Figures research assistant, Niko Angell-Gargiulo! She has been a HUGE help to me since joining the team and I wanted to make sure y’all get to know her too. You’ll probably see her around here occasionally, so please say hello!

Hi, I’m Niko Angell-Gargiulo, originally from Seattle, currently living in Paris. In 2022, I graduated from Columbia University with a master’s in history and literature. My research focused on representations of perfume in nineteenth-century French poetry just as the market was changing and synthetics were being introduced.

Now, I teach English and work as a freelance editor and researcher. I cohost my own podcast, Desperate Readers, with another Columbia alum. In each episode we discuss a book from the Western canon or world literature, introducing the author and plot before discussing thematic questions. The goal of the podcast, then, is to bring these texts into conversation with each other and introduce listeners to new books from across space and time.
